When I was growing up, we would visit my grandmother, who kept a cowboy in the kitchen. Whenever dinner was ready, she would ring the bell, which would be loud enough to let them in her third-floor bedrooms know the food was on the table. The sound has become Pavlovian for me, and now when I hear a loud brass bell – I associate it with food and family. Chris and I have had it in each of our homes, and I love having ours on the wall. I love it even more that we don’t have to shout footsteps to ask the girls out for dinner. One bell and they run!
