In my red era – Chris loves Julia

We recently painted the trim and hallway doors the most dramatic shade of red, and I find excuses to walk through this part of our house. It is so rich and romantic and brilliant and inspiring. It’s like there’s lipstick in the hallway. It feels 🙂 I hardly remember what it looked like before.

As a reminder, we incorporate the same “Preference Red” from Farrow & Ball into our mood board. The hallway door leads to this room and it’s like we’re already rolling out the red carpet.

This is not my first red era. In our last house, we painted our music room “Fading Twilight” by Benjamin Moore. This one is more muted, with purple and brick undertones, and I loved how classic and timeless it looked. Like a room from a museum.

I especially like how this paint color transformed in different light, at different times of the day, from different sides of the room.

Roman clay: Portola Paints merit | Trim: merit in Satin Enamel | Bath springs

Just before Christmas, we painted the upstairs bathroom with Roman Clay — a beautiful color called “Meritage” from Portola Paints. So burgundy is old world and beautiful. Roman Clay was harder than I thought it would be! But I’m already dying to do this somewhere else in our house.
