One question I get asked all the time in direct messages is “How do I clean my new Chris Loves Julia x Loloi rug?” Contam! There are many different opinions in the market. There are also countless products marketed as “the best carpet cleaners ever” or “flawless carpet cleaners.” In my research, I was delighted to see that Loloi and I agreed on one of our favorite spot cleaning products (keep reading to find out which one has our heart).

First, let’s talk about rug design. Our rugs may look a little more solid online, but I’ve intentionally designed these rugs to have a marl or heather effect. We have kids and pets…the last thing you need is a patchless carpet that will show every stain.
So what if you have a place that needs some extra TLC? First step: Don’t panic. I went straight to the source and got tips from our manufacturing partners at Loloi. We hope you can rest assured that you won’t go wrong with your beautiful new investment.

Types of carpets: which ones I prefer and how to clean them
There are several different types of fibers used in carpets, and we will talk about some of the most popular types. When putting together my collection, I focus on using wool, jute and cotton materials over others for their natural beauty, durability and liveability.
Wool
Mine Chris loves Julia x Loloi Briggs and Bradley both collections contain 100% wool. If there is an accidental spill, Loloi recommends using a common wool cleaning detergent such as Folex Carpet Stain Remover, Woolite Heavy Traffic Carpet Cleaner, and Bissel Little Green Machine. It’s true: I swear by Folex, I just saturate any stains and dab. You can also make a cleaning solution from a teaspoon of neutral detergent and a teaspoon of pure white vinegar combined with a liter of warm water. If it is a liquid spill, blot up the stain with paper towels as much as possible before applying the cleaning solution.
Utah
The key thing to keep in mind with 100% jute rugs is that they are not waterproof, so to avoid problems in advance, skip these rugs for high-moisture areas like bathrooms. That is why they are perfect for bedrooms, living rooms and dining rooms. If you happen to find a stain on them, simply wipe the stain quickly with a dry cloth, then contact a professional cleaning service to find the best treatment options.
Combo
So what do you do when you have a multi-material rug? This can be tricky, as a lot depends on the primary fiber content. For example, mine Chris loves Julia x Loloi Polly the collection has more wool in the mix than Judy collection, which is primarily made of jute, but also contains wool. Due to the higher wool content, the Polly line will shed a bit more than the Judy line, so it will do best when vacuumed regularly. For both of these collections, Loloi recommends avoiding moisture due to the jute content, which tends to warp slightly when wet.

General tips and tricks for carpet maintenance
It may be counterintuitive (especially with pets!), but with any rug that contains wool, you’ll want vacuum at least once a week, especially in the first month. Why is it important in the beginning? I’m glad you asked (because we’ve done it too.) A pile rug with wool tends to shed the most at first, then settles down somewhat. Loloi recommends vacuuming without grinding bar often at first to reduce shedding.

Don’t forget the mat! They provide basic cushioning and reduce slippage with added grip. In addition, they protect your wooden floors. Rug pads also help prevent rugs from bending or creasing.
Now that you have the knowledge about carpet care, you’ll be ready to keep your rugs in tip-top shape amidst the everyday messes of life.
