This week I put the finishing touches on our daughter’s room/guest room. This has been my little girl’s room since she was born, it has gone through several conversions from a nursery to a girls room upstairs. Now twenty years old and in college, this space needed a makeover, so I gave it another upgrade to serve a modern purpose.
Her style is very boho and she loves plants so I kept that in mind when updating this space. I didn’t spend much other than new bedding and a headboard, I mostly reused pieces I already had. This budget-friendly makeover turned this bedroom into a part-time guest room for visiting friends or family, but it’s also a place my daughter will occupy when she’s on break from school and during the summer.
The gold drum side table is “vintage” World Market, I have a leftover from this dining room remodel from eleven years ago and have always kept it because I love the shape and color of it. Now it lives in this bedroom next to the rattan chair under the window, I bought it years ago from Kirkland. I topped it off with a beige faux sheepskin rug and a desert-hued textured woven pillow (sources below).
The curtains, which I have worn for several years, are transparent with gold threads woven in a geometric pattern. They are just wonderful, I can’t find anything similar online. I’m so happy I kept them, they were tucked away in a closet and I repurposed them here.
The bedding is a combination of an inexpensive block print quilt I found online and also a beautifully embroidered lumbar pillow I spied at Pottery Barn.
On the wall, woven plant holders are tucked inside macrame bead plant hangers to add more texture and greenery.
The light was shockingly affordable, this beaded pendant was only $70 and fits the style of the space perfectly. I would definitely buy this again for a coastal or boho dining room, bedroom or office space.
I converted an IKEA Hemnes dresser that was in my son’s room when he was little. I painted it Benjamin Moore ‘Louisberg Green’, a beautiful shade between sage and olive.
The ladder shelf next to the door stores personal decorative items. My girlfriend prefers fabric to doors for her closet so I added three pairs of lace curtains to cover up the clothes and shelves inside.
She lives in Santa Barbara, so I framed three of her favorite sunset photos in the space, above the nightstands and dresser. The nightstands were used together as a credenza in my local shop, but I took them apart and turned them into perfect nightstands that also provide extra storage.
I brought most of the plants from my local shop that I close into this space, they are a mix of fake and real.
The rounded rattan headboard was inexpensive (source below), adds just the right amount of texture to the wall behind the bed, and echoes the shape of a similar chair under the window.
I love the palette of this room, dusty pinks, shades of apricot, various shades of green, burgundy.
Our Coco loves this space, she waits for her mom (my daughter) to come home, so she sleeps here every day.
They will be coming home for spring break soon!
