Diptyque has been on my radar (and at the top of my wish list) for years, but I didn’t buy anything from the high-end French candle and fragrance brand until 2020. It was as good a time as any to treat myself to a little luxury — and treat myself, indeed. I started with a small Roses candle and then moved up to a larger size of 190 grams, then i had to try Baies room spray (because why stop at just candles?). My apartment started looking and smelling like a Diptyque showroom, and I fell in love.
Due to the budget, I had to put Diptyque’s expansion on hold…until I recently discovered their new cleaning products (yes, they carry home cleaning essentials). As part of its La Droguerie collection, the brand has just launched a deodorizing candle and spray, a multi-surface cleaner and dish soap. I had the opportunity to test them, and, much to my surprise, the latter now dominates as my favorite. I never thought I’d get excited about dish soap, but Diptyque has made me a changed woman.
You’re probably thinking, “Why would I buy dish soap from a luxury candle company?” Hear me out: For starters, the bottle’s design actually cuts my cleanup time in half. It comes with a pump tip (like hand soap or lotion), so I can dispense the dishwashing liquid directly into the pot or plate I’m cleaning. Unlike a disc or twist cap, I’d have to invert, spray and then put it down, I never have to lift or move this bottle – just a quick tap or two on the top, and I can start scrubbing dishes right away.
I knew I could count on the best of the best from Diptyque, but I was still amazed at how well this dish cleaner actually worked. Food residue disappears effectively after a quick soap, soak and sponge routine, even for crumpled pieces. I also wondered about the ingredients and discovered that, according to the packaging, it is 99.3% of natural origin.
Also true to Diptyque form, this dish soap looks absolutely gorgeous on my kitchen counter, with the signature minimalist, white and black oval lettering. My apartment opens directly into the (rather outdated) kitchen, especially the sink area, so I love anything that makes the space look more aesthetically pleasing. And best of all, when you use up the last drop of soap, you can keep and refill the glass container (even with cheaper soap you already own). Its amber color also matches the Aesop hand soap bottle I styled next to it, which – plot twist – is actually filled with… soft soap.
I didn’t even get to the best part: the smell. La Drogerie dish soap has a fresh, citrus scent, with notes of orange blossom, tangerine and basil. It even lingers subtly, making my hands and kitchen smell good when I’m done. As someone who doesn’t have a dishwasher and HATES washing dishes by hand, I’m now the least bit excited about cleaning up after a meal, thanks to this new cleaning essential.
La Drogerie dish soap costs $45 for 500 milliliters, which is expensive; I won’t sugarcoat it. But if you’re ready for a little spring cleaning with a reusable bottle, I can’t recommend dishwashing liquid enough. You can’t go wrong with any Diptyque fragrance (trust me, I’ve become a connoisseur), and a little soap goes a long way here, so a bottle will last a while. It’s also the most elegant dish soap I’ve ever seen, and it basically doubles as a space freshener. I am officially making this handy little luxury a permanent fixture in my kitchen.
