When I first moved out of my childhood home seven years ago, I had no furniture to my name. The bedroom set I had at the time was outdated, clunky and hard to move, so it allowed me to do something I’ve wanted to do for a while: invest in quality furniture. While I know it’s somewhat of a tradition when you first move out to grab the cheapest bed frame and run with it, I’ve been saving up for a while so that when I move out, I can fill my new space with pieces that can grow and come with me

When you think of high-quality furniture, many retailers probably come to mind, but the first for me is Pottery Barn. Now, I’ll be completely honest — I am no I thought I would find a bed from Pottery Barn that I liked and was also within my budget. However, after a quick browse, I came across the Astoria Platform Bed — and this beauty has been with me ever since.

Design features that stand out

When I first came across this bed, I was immediately blown away lovely color. Made of solid mango wood, I gravitated towards Rosedale Brown, a shade I would describe as a warm taupe and therefore one that would be easy to apply in most spaces. Then there it is distressed finish. I love the look of distressed vintage furniture, and this bed exudes just that. But perhaps the design element that struck me the most were his legs. The carved turned legs of this bed not only add a bit of romance to the design, but act as a nice contrast to the clean, crisp lines of the rest of the frame, a look I (and everyone who saw it) couldn’t help fawning over.

The delivery of this bed was flawless. After making an appointment with the Pottery Barn delivery company, everything was delivered to my bedroom and assembled in 20 minutes, maybe less. I made sure to pay attention to how it was assembled for future movements and was impressed by how simple it was: simply attach the four sides and the central support leg together with screws, attach the legs, place the wooden slats in place (these are made of solid wood planks, not MDF) and drill to secure. This design would be easier when it came to moving to my next two places, something I was extremely grateful for on both moving days. After putting it together, I simply put down my mattress (no box spring needed!!!), hop on my sheets (including my favorite pillow for support), and I was good to go. Seven years later, it’s still solid, squeak-free and looks as great as the day it was delivered.

For $600 more, you can pick up the Astoria storage bed, which comes with a headboard equipped with cubes for extra storage, a great choice for small spaces! It is also important to note that with the purchase of this bed, you get white glove delivery and installation in the room of your choice.
