A studio living room makeover has 3 chic IKEA hacks

The BILLY bookshelf also serves as an elegant wall partition.

The highlight of the studio is the “giant pink bookcase” that helps make the living room a special zone; and it’s actually a unit made of multiple BILLY bookcases and extensions, all painted pink (Behr’s Pink Taffy).

Ashley started with a 2×4 base and then added her own IKEA pieces. “I used three large BILLY bookcases built upside down on BILLY extensions for the long side and one small BILLY bookcase built upside down on a BILLY extension for the short side,” she says.

To achieve the built-in look, Ashley and her friend added trim and molding to the case before painting it. The project was the most expensive of the three, costing about $800 in materials and tools, but Ashley says the results are priceless. “It’s one of my greatest achievements,” she says. “I’m possessed! Not only does it create an amazing look in the apartment, but it provides a ton of functional storage.”
