We’ve been expanding our Personal Shopper series for some time now, both by visiting new retailers and returning to some of the first stores we visited when we started, including West Elm. There’s a reason readers and customers in general love this brand. You can trust that almost every piece from West Elm will not only look extremely stylish in your home, but will also last for years of use without losing its luster. This especially applies to sofas. After so many store visits, it’s become hard to remember all the individual couches, sectionals, and sleeper beds we’ve seen, but the ones from West Elm remain fresh in our minds. Highlights include the small-space-friendly Olivera, the laid-back Haven, and the beloved Harmony. The latter proved particularly popular with our readers after we published our buying guide, so we thought we’d expand on our thoughts on this stunning living room set. Keep reading to find out more about our honest opinions.

What is the Harmony sofa?

We technically got a look at the two-piece version of the Harmony in the sectional during our store visit, but the sofa is basically that without the chaise longue. Really, no matter which configuration you decide on, you can’t go wrong. Apartment dwellers, however, will likely prefer a 76” or 82” sofa. (Harmony is also available in 92” width and 104” width). Apart from the width, this model is still very adaptable. You can choose from more than 100 upholstery fabrics, two seat cushion styles and two depths. The standard 41-inch depth still allows you to sit and lie in a variety of positions, but the 47-inch depth makes the sofa the ultimate napping spot. Although the Harmony falls into the modern style category, it still stands out from the rest thanks to its unique plank legs and ultra-plush cushions – including side cushions that double as pillows!

Why we love the Harmony sofa

We rated the Harmony sofa highly in many criteria categories when we looked at it in the store. In particular, it scored 10 out of 10 for portability and also scored well for multi-functionality. In other words, not only can you take a nap and rest on this sofa, but it is also a good choice for people who work from home or often entertain guests. Above all, though, we were impressed with how comfortable it was. “It really is like a cloud to lie on, and the numerous pillows that adorn the section have different amounts of filling, creating support for the back where it’s needed and support for the head, arms and neck from the sides,” reads our review. “It’s practically built to snooze, but its retro, sleek look is enough on its own.”

The same praise applies to the sofa version, which also comes with lumbar cushions. We also noticed that its platform-supporting cushions make the Harmony reminiscent of the sunken living rooms of the 60s. Despite this attractive feature, it still manages to stand out as one of West Elm’s most contemporary sofa styles.

As long as you like its looks, the Harmony is practically perfect. Compact, beautiful and comfortable – what more could you ask for? We have a feeling that once this sofa is in your living room, it’s there to stay.
