Costco warehouses are full of fantastic products for fantastic deals on bulk items including groceries, household essentials and even clothing. However, some larger items like furniture and large appliances may not necessarily be found in brick-and-mortar stores because they are online, making it a challenge to know exactly what you’re buying when you shop. Luckily, according to recent news, the giant will be opening a showroom exclusively dedicated to furniture and appliances – a concept we can definitely get behind.

Formerly a Toy R Us in Anchorage, Alaska, Costco plans to open the doors to this new type of warehouse. Permits pending, according to Christine Lasley, Costco director of real estate and development, as reported in the Anchorage Daily Newsthe showroom still doesn’t have an official launch date.

Lasley also told the publication that they do this to meet the needs of their members so people can see exactly what they will be buying. This is also intended for businesses that may need to purchase items in bulk.

Some longtime loyalists may also recall that the brand tested a concept similar to this one in Kirkland, Washington, near their headquarters in Issaquah, Washington. However, that location closed its doors in 2009.

A Reddit thread has members speculating about the concept, attributing it to Alaska’s remoteness and limited access to big ticket items. Others are excited to see if the idea will be successful and hope to expand to larger markets. While the future is unknown, if the showroom goes ahead, this could be a huge game changer for Costco, and we can only hope it expands to the lower 48 – and Hawaii.
