If you haven’t been following IKEA’s many Nyfäskarskad drops, it’s not too late to start. The Swedish furniture giant has just announced its fourth drop of its vintage collection, and it’s just as incredible as the ones that came before it.
The collection is full of fun, colorful ’70s-inspired pieces from IKEA catalogs from that era — all reimagined and updated for today. The latest drop has some distinct features, including ÖNNESTAD armchair.
This armchair has a comfortable cushion and is perfect for bringing a summer beach atmosphere to your home as the weather warms up. Originally designed by Charlotte Rude and Hjördis Olsson-Una as the GOGO in 1972, it was made from standard steel tubing and described as having “extra-soft cushions”. The updated version uses high-strength steel, which cuts the amount of material used in half. Rude and Olsson-Une, who started working at IKEA in the late 1960s and brought a fresh perspective to the brand, are largely credited with coming up with the idea of colorfully painted steel furniture.
You can get ÖNNESTAD in two versions: one with green tubes and cushions with green and white stripes, and one with red tubes with beige cushions with red stitching on the edges. Since the cushions are sold separately, you can swap them out without buying the whole chair again, or even mix and match the frames. While the frame is made of steel and polyester, the cushions are 100% cotton, which means they’re probably as soft as promised.
The armchair (with cushions) retails for just $99, and if you want an extra set of cushions, you’ll pay $40 more. That’s a great price for a piece of IKEA history in your home — so you’d better get in store soon (or order online) before this one sells out.
