The tiles were a DIY job.
To make the staircase the statement that Matthew and his husband were looking for, Matthew bought some green tiles that caught his eye at Lowe’s. “I immediately knew what I was going to do with them,” he says. “Everyone thought the idea of paving the stairs was crazy, but I told them to trust the process.”
And trust the process they did; Matthew’s husband and friend, Sarah, actually installed the tile during the holidays when Matthew had to work. And it looks like the tile was really meant to be, because not a single piece had to be cut to size! “The cross tiles fit perfectly and were the exact height we needed,” says Matthew. “The tile seems to make the biggest difference at first, but in my opinion, as soon as the honey wood tone went away, the space immediately felt better,” says Matthew.
